Admiral Green has assigned me to this ship’s science department and I just came onboard less than an hour ago.” The voice from the translation device attached to the being sounded highly mechanized, unusual for current technology, Saleke decided to have one designed that would be less artificial. The appendage uncoiled from beneath the creature rummaged quickly through the bag strapped to its back and emerged with a PADD which it extended toward him, he took the PADD and activated it as the creature continued speaking. “I am under the impression, sir, that you and your crew were unaware of the existence of my species or that I was to be assigned here. For medical and scientific purposes, I have always tried to be prepared for that eventuality, as I still seem to surprise and startle so many graceful stalks, and so have another PADD prepared with several articles about my species.” It extracted another PADD from the bag and slid it to Saleke who took it with interest, he had heard up close studies had been occuring with the species during his time at the academy but the data was not available during that time period. "Thank you Naraht, this should be fascinating reading. While I am familiar with the species there is much I do not know." He said and returned his attention back to the previous PADD. Keying in his command code he brought up the full series of biographical data and transfer orders from Admiral Green assigning the young Horta to the Mystique, orders that had not reached the ship before his arrival. After studying the information for a long two minutes as the ensign awaited he finished cycling through it and looked back up. "Welcome aboard the Mystique Ensign Naraht, everything is complete and in order. You will be assigned under the CSO Lieutenant Ketal who will see to your orientation. My apologies that your orders did not precede you as I see there are some specialized requirements needed for your quarters, have you been assigned a cabin yet?" (Reply: Naraht) "Good," he nodded his head just so. "Lieutenant Ketal should be in the life science labs on deck 4 or his office on deck 14, report in to him." (Reply: Naraht) Saleke watched the young Horta rumble off toward the door to Ten Forward and inclined his head in an interested manner. "Fascinating." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique- Deck Ten Forward- Asst CSO Ensign Naraht -1458) "Welcome aboard the Mystique, Ensign Naraht. Everything is complete and in order. You will be assigned under the CSO Lieutenant Ketal who will see to your orientation. My apologies that your orders did not precede you as I see there are some specialized requirements needed for your quarters. Have you been assigned a cabin yet?" "I have not been assigned quarters that I know of sir, but we have already fabricated a dish for me to eat safely so as to not damage the ship. It is currently in one of the maintenance rooms near one of the larger replicators. I have replicator recipe chips for food for me, if neccessary." "Good," he nodded his head just so. "Lieutenant Ketal should be in the Life Science labs on deck 4 or his office on deck 14, report in to him." "Thank you, sir. I shall report to him right away." Naraht paused in the middle of rumbling away. "She was right sir. Mother, I mean. She admired Commander Spock's ears. I can understand why. Your ear organs, like you, are also tall and graceful." Naraht rumbled off to the door of Ten Forward, concious of the stares of various stalks watching him. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique- Ship’s Corridor/Life Sciences Lab- Asst CSO Ensign Naraht -1500) Naraht rumbled happily down the ship’s corridor after leaving Ten Forward. He thought the Commander was an interesting and engaging stalk. Remembering his discussions with Mother about the Vulcan stalk Spock now made a little more sense and Naraht could see why she had approved of him. He passed a few crewmembers in the ships corridors and either they were surprised and startled or they seemed to be in a hurry going about their duties. Naraht thought it best to politely ignore them for now to report in quickly to his department chief. Then he would have to try to find an atmospheric pressure chamber to get some deep pressure time. He wasn’t looking forward to seeing Sickbay, but he knew that these were stalks that he would get to know and be working with closely. Naraht stopped at one of the computer interface maps in the corridor. “Computer where is Lieutenant Ketal?” [Lieutenant Ketal is in the Life Science lab on deck 4] replied the computer. ~Oh Great Lava, he’s in a lab!~ thought Naraht. ~Well, I need to get used to the science labs anyhow so, I better get started. It will be all right.~ “Computer, please give me a route to the Life Science Lab from this location.” A red line appeared on the ship diagram leading to the turbolift. Naraht rumbled down the corridor and turned right to find himself in front of the turbolift door. It swooshed open in front of him to admit him. It was currently empty so he rumbled right in. “Deck 4, please,” requested Naraht. The door slid shut and the lift began humming. It stopped and opened on Deck 4. Naraht rumbled out, and moved down the corridor to find the nearest computer map, ignoring more surprised stalks due to his growing determination to report in. “Direct me to Life Sciences, please,” requested Naraht of the corridor map. A red line from his location to the Life Sciences Lab appeared. [The Life Sciences Lab is down the corridor 20 meters to your left] instructed the computer. “You sound just like a female stalk I met once,” said Naraht to the map. He then rumbled down the hall toward the Life Sciences Lab and paused before going near the doors. He rumbled uneasily and rippling out his hair-like phalangi underneath him with determination, he moved up to the doors. They split open to admit him, and Naraht rumbled more quietly into the lab so as to not disturb anyone, carefully pulling all his phalangi in after him. Naraht detected only a few stalks, but never having met him, he wasn’t sure which stalk was Lieutenant Ketal. He moved up to one stalk entering data into a PADD that was standing at a table full of plants. “Excuse me, could you direct me to Lieutenant Ketal, please? I am newly assigned to the ship and I need to report in to him. I understand he is here somewhere.” -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - Counselling - ACOUNS Ens(sg) Regan Alessi - 1650) Regan looked at the time. Lt Keswick was five minutes late. She had only scheduled him a short meeting to start with, so time was running short. She decided to take the bull by the horns and look for him herself. After all, she had time free due to a last-minute cancellation. "Computer, where is Lt Keswick?" [Lt Keswick is in the Chief of Operations Office] Sighing, Regan got up and picked up a small PADD as she exited her office to look for the Operations Chief. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - COPS Office - ACOUNS Ens(sg) Regan Alessi and COPS Lt Travis Keswick - 1654) Regan hesitated at the door, then took a breath and sounded the door-chime. Travis looked up from his padd at the door ~ Oh god I forgot ~ Travis thought to himself as he just remembered his meeting with Dr Alessi. Talking a deep breath "Enter". Regan entered the office. "Good afternoon, Travis," she said with a gentle smile. "Did you forget we had an appointment?" "Sorry about that I had some departmental issue to take care of." Travis said as he motioned for her to have a seat. "I must have forgotten about our appointment." Travis added but the fact was he was hoping she would forget about it. Regan suppressed a small grin before it got to her lips. She was pretty sure that however true the departmental issue had been, he had been hoping that she would not chase him up until it was too late. He reminded her a little of Menno when it was time for his regular dental check. "I understand," she said in a friendly tone. "But if you are finished dealing with your departmental issue, perhaps we could have our session now?" ~Might as well get this out of the way~ Travis thought to himself sooner then later. "Sure now will be fine. So how is this going to work?" Travis said shifting in his chair. He was just waiting for her to start probing his mind. Regan sensed some anxiety in him, from his body-language. It was something she had come across before; so many people seemed to assume that you would be reading their mind willy nilly, just because you were a telepath, despite the telepathic moral laws. And of course, there was also the 'thing' that a lot of people had about counsellors. "Well," Regan said, taking a seat, "The first thing I want to make clear is that unless you specifically request it, there is no question of my reading your thoughts or feelings. So our sessions will be just talking, unless you yourself want them to be different?" Travis did not talk much comfort in her quoting of the telepathic laws in-fact he himself broke the telepathic laws it was to stop a killer Travis recollecting his interrogation methods. "Well what do you recommend we do? As you can tell I'm not good at this sort of thing." Regan sighed inwardly ~why don't I ever get the easy ones who want to tell me everything?~ but kept a friendly expression on her face. "How about we start with you telling me a little about yourself and how you came to be on the Mystique?" she said. That was something she had found worked well in some cases with nervous clients. They were happier to talk about something familiar, that they didn't have to feel stressed about. She wished she could look into his eyes and gauge a little of his feelings from them, but the ocular implants gave nothing away. She would have to rely on body-language alone. "Well were do I start I graduated the Academy and was assigned to to Mystique for its maiden voyage as assistant security chief under Lt. Dema." Travis said. Regan bit her lip and suppressed another sigh. That much she knew from his record. "What led you to decide to join Starfleet in the first place?" she asked, hoping to draw him out a little. Travis leaned back in his chair. "Well I'm always up for a challenge and try to better myself so After I spent several years on Qo'noS training at the Klingon Defence Force Academy. With the help of my Adoptive Klingon family I chose to further my education so I moved to San Francisco and joined Starfleet academy. " Regan allowed herself to smile encouragingly. This ranked almost as a breakthrough. He had finally told her something that was not just the standard stonewall. "Did you find the Starfleet Academy a big change from the Klingon DF Academy?" she asked. "Well for one thing you don't get hit with pain sticks in starfleet academy. In the KDFA they focus on hand to hand combat as long as the tactical aspects. There was little to know Scientific training at the KDFA. Which is why Science was never a strong subject for me in Starfleet Academy." Regan's eyes widened a little. "I can understand that," she said. "But I would think that being brought up as the adopted son of a Klingon family must have broadened your experience considerably. It's things like that which give you the edge over those whose cultural experience is limited initially to their own birth race. Do you regard yourself as being more Klingon than not?" "As a mater of fact Morgot my father who is a member of the Klingon High Counsel didn't make things easy or me. He pushed me vary hard to become the a Klingon warrior. I when threw all the rituals and blood shed and broken bones and now my name is spoken with honer among the klingons," Travis said pausing for a moment. "I guess to answer you question I would have to say this I am regarded as a great warrior among my brethren and that is what is important to me." Regan nodded. "You family must be very proud to have a son like you," she said sincerely. "And you must also be proud of your family and the honour that you do them by being such a son." She thought that maybe, just maybe, she was beginning to get the key to him. "It took time but my family has excepted my career chose and happy for but I can tell that my T'gokh my brother was disappointed that I did not join the Klingon Defence Force and left for Starfleet. He allows wonted to the sons of Morgot to fight side by side in a grate battle. But he too has excepted my starfleet career because my family knows that this is Klingon blood flowing threw my veins and that when I dye I will dye like a Klingon." Regan heard the pride in his voice as he spoke. Indeed Travis was Klingon, in all but his birth-parents. Which, she supposed, explained a lot. She had never yet heard of a Klingon who responded willingly to a counsellor. The fact that he was talking to her at all, she put down to either a direct order or some inner acknowledgement of the necessity which he might only be partly aware of. She considered how to proceed from here. She took a deep breath and hoped she was not about to lose the ground she had gained with him. But she had found that confrontation of the problem to be resolved was the way forward with some of the Klingons she had dealt with in the past. "You have a great heritage," she said slowly. "One that you are rightly proud of, that has given you great strength of spirit. That must have helped you when you first saw Pattia's children. Tell me what that was like." Travis forgot for a moment that he was talking with A counsellor and she started with the probing for him to talk about his feelings and that was something he was not willing to do. Not with her anyway. Travis was mad and felt that he was tricked into talking about things he had no intention of talking about. Travis stood up "Thank you Ensign but I think it is time to end here." Travis said with anger in his voice. "I have to give you credit counsellor I thought you where different but no you are just like the rest of them now if you will excuse me I have work to do." Travis said trying not to loss his temper. Regan remained sitting. "If that is what you wish, then we can end this session here and now. However if I may remind you, I did not approach you just for a gossip or to satisfy my curiosity, but to help you get past what you saw there. And I can tell you one thing, LIEUTENANT, if you do NOT deal with it, it WILL begin to affect not just your work but your relationships and the rest of your life. So, if that is what you want, fine. I will write up my report for Dr Mias and for Commander Saleke and I will be putting my recommendation forward that unless and until you accept that you DO need to confront what you saw and how you feel about it, you should be relieved from duty for the safety of the ship and crew as a whole. Furthermore, I remind you that while technically you outrank me, it is MY recommendation as Assistant head of the Counselling department that will carry weight. So either you sit down and stop trying to intimidate me and continue this session in a co-operative manner or I will end it here and now and write my report. The choice is yours." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.04 (USS Mystique - hallway - Ensign Taya & Cassandra Dema - 2400) Cassandra passed the corner, to see Taya sitting in front of her quarters. She walked up to her. "Are you waiting for Jason?" She asked. "Yeah," Taya said dejectedly. She then internally smiled, "Don't suppose you could let me in as i really need to talk to him?" "Ah, no problem, come in then, he must be working overtime again." Cassandra opened the door, and walked in to see the frames that fell. "My my, what a mess, He should really learn to clean things up if he drops them." Cassandra walked over to the table and started placing them back on the table. Taya walked over to help and picked up one particular frame making sure no glass was going to cut into her. She turned it over and looked at the picture. It showed a young woman with obvious love in her eyes. She stood up slowly still holding the frame and turned to Cassandra. "Who's this?" She asked trying not to sound like she cared too much. Cassandra took over to see the picture more clearly. She carefully took some glass out, which was loose, and answered Taya's question, before placing the frame back on the table. "That's Sarah, it was Jason's previous girlfriend. they met here on the ship, and had a short relation. It ended after she died in sickbay. It took him months to get over her, and somehow, I think he still isn't over it, since he hasn't been the same since she died." "Oh," Taya said simply. "Why do you ask?" Cassandra at that point knew of nothing between Jason and Taya yet, actually, this is the first time she really saw her face to face. "Just wondering," Taya said non-commitedly knowing full well that Cassie could probably see straight through her. Taya sighed and sat down on the sofa running her hands over her head and tightening the ponytail. She looked around the room noting the items in Jason's quarters. ~So unlike my own~ she thought ~he has a lot of personal belongings. I've been on this ship a long time and i still have about the same amount as that which i came on board with. ~ Taya then pulled her hair out of her ponytail and ran her fingers through it hoping that it would show a more feminine and vulnerable side to Jason once he came and talked to her, ~argue will be more like it~ Cassandra finished cleaning up, and recycled the broken glass. "I hear Jason's in the shower, he'll be out shortly. I'll be in my room, so just act like you're home." Taya nodded and fought back the urge to swallow. ~wow, in the shower~ However she put such thoughts into the back of her mind when she thought about his expression as he left the briefing, he really did not want to see her. She sighed and sat back. Cassandra then walked into her room, and took her books to start studying. Taya sat there sitting back on the sofa for a few minutes before the thoughts of what was most likely going to happen ran through her head. How they would probably shout and her pride and stubbornness would get the better of her. She probably would not have a boyfriend by the end of it. She leant forward placing her elbows on her knees and rested her head in her hands. ~What have i done? What have i done?~ 20 minutes after Cassandra let Taya in, Jason emerged from the bathroom, wearing only a light-grey towel around his waste, his dirty uniform in his left hand. Only halfway to his room, he noticed there was a visitor. The moment he saw it was Taya, his look became angry. "How the hell did you get in?" Taya stood up abruptly quickly taking in his appearance before putting an emotional guard up at his expression and tone of voice. "Cassie let me in," she said quietly trying to show that what she didn't want was an all out confrontation even though she knew it was going to happen. "I see, well, time for you to leave, so bye, I think you can find the way out." He said in a sarcastic tone, and walked into his room to get dressed up. "Jason," Taya called in resignation. "Please" Taya got up and followed him just catching one of his arms. "Please, we need to talk. Even you can't deny that. Please just let me explain." "What is there to explain" Jason shouted. "I asked you to come to the holodeck, I waited there for several hours, but after all that waiting, there was still only me." Jason took a deep breath before continuing. He put all his passionate strength in his words, and it consumed his breath rapidly. " The next days I sent you messages, but no reply, and now you suddenly show up, like nothing has happened, and expect me not to care?" Taya looked at the floor her face going red, "please Jason sit down and let me explain. I know at this point in time you just wanna kick me out but that's not going to do us any good in the long run...we both know that. Please if you just sit down and give me a chance to explain you might understand why i did what i did. After that if you still want to throw me out then by all means do but please...hear me out first." Jason pulled himself loose from Taya, and gestured her to sit down. "Sure, go sit, but don't expect me to sit next to you." He said, and went into his room to find something more appropriate. "Start explaining." He said from behind the corner. "If your lucky, I might be listening." Taya sat down on the sofa and pulled her hair over one of her shoulders while a tear rolled down her face at how harsh his voice was. she took a deep breath and started to speak, "I've never felt this way before. Ever. I got scared...i ran. It's what i always do when i'm scared because of personal things, i run it's just what i do and...i'm sorry but its the kind of person i am. I was scared by what my feelings mean and if they would compromise the ship some way. i guess it's being stupid but i cant help it that's just the way i am. That evening i got ready for our..." She coughed, " and well i walked to the holodeck and then i just walked back to my quarters again. I was too scared to walk in...if it makes you feel any better i cried all night. When i got your messages it just hurt me more and more till i cut myself from feelings. I became like a vulcan, hiding my feelings all the time. Yes they were there i don't deny that but i just....i just." Pathetic, was the first word that entered Jason's head. but just like her, he was hurt too, crying all night or not, it didn't change anything about the situation at hand. She broke down into tears cursing herself mentally for the weakness before realizing that if she and Jason were ever going to work things out he needed to see all sides of her, even the pathetic emotional ones. Jason in the meanwhile, slid into his pants and took one of his shirts out of the closet. though the tears were eating his defense, he tried to hold strong. His stubbornness was reaching it's limit, but held onto a string. Still, he didn't say a word as Taya continued. "This is how i am and i'm sorry. If you can't handle the fact that i am insecure and will run and cut myself off from things then you tried to date the wrong person." Taya said through her tears hoping that her show of false bravery would help Jason to understand. She stood up and walked towards the door to the corridor outside staying just out of it's sensor range. "I need to know now if you can handle that part of me and forgive me....if not i will walk out this door now." Jason still didn't answer, as he went to sit on his bed, trying to fight his tears. The string was still there, but almost breaking. Then he heard the doors opening. Taya walked out the doors fresh tears flooding down her face. Jason's mind snapped the moment he heard the doors closing. He quickly stood up and let out a loud roar, realising that acting like this, would only worsen the situation. "Computer, erect a forcefield in front of Taya, close any path, except the one leading to the door of my quarters, and keep my door open until she enters." Jason walked out of his room, and stopped at the table with the fallen and broken frames, and waited for Taya to come back inside. Taya turned to walk to her quarters when she walked into a forcefield. She walked the other way and found the same forcefield blocking her way. She stepped back and placed a finger tip on it to see where the forcefield went. She laughed without humour when she saw the only place she could go was back where she didn't want to go anymore. But still her legs betrayed her mind and they walked her back through Jason's door and into his quarters. She stopped inside the door tears still rolling down her face. "Tell me." He said. "What does an insecure person do, when she has no other place to go then to the origin of her insecurity?" Taya looked down trying to keep the hope buried incase this wasn't what she thought it was. "I don't know," she whispered. "I have never confronted any personal demons before." Jason picked up the frame, holding the picture of Sarah in it, and removed the black ribbon that was hanging over the corner. And placed it back on the table. Still looking to the frames, he continued. "Then isn't it about time you did?" Taya looked up her eyes going wide. "You mean....do you.....what i mean to say is.....are you willing...." Taya stumbled over her words. She blushed and bit her bottom lip. "What?" he asked, and walked over towards the couch. After sitting down, he shifted into a comfortable position and started to relax, still avoiding eyecontact for the time being. "I love you," Taya whispered. Jason stood back up, this time he turned towards her, and looking into her eyes. He bended forward leaning on the couch. "What did you say? I didn't hear you." Gaining a bit more confidence Taya walked to just in front of Jason, her eyes meeting his. "I love you," she said a bit more loudly. Jason couldn't keep the smile buried, as it slowly surfaced on his face. He sat down with his knees on the sofa, facing Taya, so his lips were at the exact same height as hers, as his smile kept growing bigger. "So, ready to throw one demon away, and replace it with another, namely me?" He asked as he moved himself closer to her. Taya leaned in to him threading her fingers through his so that he was supporting her weight. "yeah-uh," she whispered her breath moving over his lips. Slowly, Jason moved their hands towards him, and as Taya approached, and her breath warming his face, he broke the silence once more with a gentle whisper. "Good answer." His lips touched hers, as Jason slightly tilted his head to the right. Taya smiled against his lips, and then slowly started to return his kiss. Jason placed her arms on his shoulders, and guided his hands along her arms, gently tickling her, to her back. There was no way out anymore, as they forgot everything around them, forming a new bond with the kiss they shared. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.05 (USS Mystique - Personal Quarters - COPS Lt. Travis Keswick & ACMO Dr. Vren Marto - 0700) Travis lay in bad staring out the window. Travis mind was working over time which made for a long night of restless sleep. Travis looked over at Marto how was fast asleep with her arm draped over his chest. Travis slipped out of bad as not to wake her up and mad his way to the shower in hopes to clear his head. Before the away mission. The movement woke Marto and she stretched, still half asleep. Turning she pulled the covers over her head, burrowing back down into the bed hoping she could squeeze another half hour before she had to get up. Slightly more wine than she was used to last night had left her fuzzy and with a dull throb behind her eyes. Travis steeped out of the shower and to put on a uniform and walked back into the living room he looked around not seeing Marto he headed to the bedroom and sow that she had pulled the covers over her head and went back to sleep. Travis walked over to the side of the bed Marto was on and sat down next to her pulling back the sheets exposing her head. Travis gently brushed the hair out if her eyes. "Time to get up sleepy head." Travis sead gently onto her ear." Marto opened one eye and squinted up at him, "No it's not." Getting hold of the covers she pulled them firmly back over her head. "Ok we can do this the hard way then." Travis walked to the foot of the bed and grabbed the sheets and blankets and with one pull yanked them and threw them on the floor. Marto open both her eyes this time, glared at him and with a sigh headed off to the shower, cursing under her breath in Bajoran. Eventually she came back out fully dressed and made her way through to the main room her headache gone. "Hi sleepy head glad you could join me." Travis sead with a smile as he handed her a cup of Bajoran tea. "Here you go this might help walk you up." Marto smiled up at him as she took the cup. "Thanks love. A little too much spring wine I think last night. I never did have much of a head for alcohol." Travis smiled "I do have to say seeing you drunk was a sight to see. it was good to see you completely relaxed and after the day we had yesterday we needed to relax. Marto shook her head, "Don't remind me love." She grinned up at him. "Yesterday started off really well but I think I could have lived without the rest of it. Water under the bridge as they say. Anyway I better start getting my supplies ready for this mission this morning. How come we get lumbered with the tropical rain forest when other folk get beaches and lakes. We'll end up being soaked and then boiled and then soaked again. Ah well." "I have been reviewing the scans taking of the rain forest zone it looks like allot of the plants and shrubs that may have Medicinal values. So I would recommend bringing whatever equipment is necessary to determine that." Marto nodded. "Yup, figured out the same thing. I put together a sampling kit last night before we hit 10 Forward, I just need to make sure that my personal med kit is fully stocked and then we can get on our way." "Let me know when your ready to head out I wont to look over the game plain I worked on for the team once we get down on the planet." Travis sead as he secured his class 2 hand phaser into the holster and then the tricorder. The then picked up a padd and started to look it over. Marto nodded vaguely at him too busy for the moment making sure her kit was fully stocked. She ran through everything in her head and checked it off in the kit. Everything seemed to be there but there was one thing that nagged at her. Something she had forgotten. Thinking hard about the hologram she had seen in the Observation Lounge she merely allowed it to float in the front of her mind until it hit her. "Bug Spray. I nearly forgot to bring Bug Spray." Collecting a tube from the replicator she turned back to Travis. "Ok, all done. Did you get me a phaser?" Travis looked over at Marto. "Of course." Travis sead handing her a phaser with holster. "Lets rock and role." Travis sead with a smile as he followed her out the door as they headed for the transporter room 1. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stardate: 2407.02.05 (USS Mystique - Transporter Room 1 - CEO 3/O Lt. Mason Garrett and Ensign Cynthia Darson - 815) Mason checked to make sure everything was in it's place around his waist, especially the tricorder and phaser. He then gazed around the room. Most of the members of the away teams designated by Saleke the day before had arrived ready to go. For the moment they only awaited the late-comers. Cindy, in her enthusiasm to learn more about this new world, had been the first to arrive in the transporter room and had remained antsy for almost a quarter-hour. Mason watched her check her own equipment, absorbed by the lithe movements of her slender features. Her long hair, now set in fleecy dark curls, bobbed over her shoulders as she pulled the tricorder from her waist to check its settings. She put the device back in place then saw his eyes on her and smiled warmly. He gave her a wink and fixed his gaze on the transporter panel. (Reply: anyone) "We should encounter plenty of life down there," Cindy said. "All our scans found no signs of even the most primitive constructs or cave dwellings. There wasn't so much as a campfire. That's not to say that we won't find some kind of smart tree-dwelling PRE-sentient life form. Given the age of this planet and the abundance of animal life, that seems very possible. Unfortunately, there is no way to know what kind of hostility will be displayed." "But it would be prudent to assume that this planet has it's share of aggressive predatorial species." "So remember, it's the law of the jungle," Cindy finished the thought in a wistful tone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.05 (USS Mystique - Transporter Room 1 - COPS Lt. Travis Keswick & ACMO Dr. Vren Marto - 0816) Marto walked into the Transporter room just ahead of Travis and smiled at everyone else there. Turning to Travis she looked up at him. "Our teams all here. What do you have in mind?" Travis looked at his padd as Cindy gathered near Travis MArto and the security officer assigned to his way team. "OK team this is the plan. Dr Vren I would like to gather samples of the plant life and gather as much useful information as possible." Travis looked at the padd. "Ensign Darson I would like you to gather as mush information as posable on all life forms in that section. Then Travis looked at the 2 security officers. I wont you two to constantly scan the area for anything unusual. I don't wont any surprises well we are down there. Is there any Questions". ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.05 (USS Mystique - Transporter Room 1 - ACMO Dr. Vren Marto - 0818) Marto listened closely as Travis outline their plan. Marto shook her head. "Not a problem my side Sir. I've everything I think I'll need. Whenever you're ready." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.05 (USS Mystique- Ready Room - Commander Saleke - 0945) Saleke sat once again in the Captains Ready Room from which he was watching over the affairs of the ship, as of this morning she had still not regained conciousness and they were still awaiting orders from Geneva as to the plans for her long term care, as the chronometer read 0958 a whistling noise sounded fropm the monitor, Saleke activated the comm and the face of Lt. Adams appeared on the screen, he was once again watching the bridge in the Commander's absence. =^= Commander we are receiving a message from Fleet Command at Geneva addressed to you sir alone. Orders? =^= "Send it through Mr. Adams," He said and when the green button began to blink he tapped it, the screen switched form the bridge to a blue screen on which the legend 52nd Fleet, Admirality offices shown up in white letters with the official Federation seal behind them. A red blazon began blinking on the screen requesting the proper code clearance. An eyebrow arched as Saleke spoke. "Commander Saleke here, code Alpha 5, Ceti, Blue, Tau 3, Nu." The blinking light stopped as the code was processed after which the initial screen disappeared and was replaced by one of Admiral rank, of Caitian race he noted which made him the head of the Medical division, Admiral Gr'Iann if he remembered correctly. "Computer play message." [To Commmanderr Saleke of the USS Mystique. Due to the cirrcummstances leading to the rr emmoval of Captain Vanyssa Winterrs frromm command, you arre hearrby orrderred to escorrt Captain Winterrs to Starrbase Geneva to begin trreatmment. You arre also hearrby orrderred to take commmand of the USS Mmystique, and arre prrommoted to the rrank of Captain. Congrratulations Captain Saleke. I only wish it werre underr betterr cirrcummstances.] So that was it then, he reached for the com system and tapped it. "Lt. Adams patch me through to the landing parties." =^= Aye sir, ready now.=^= "Saleke to all away teams, return to the ship and prepare to leave orbit. I repeat return to the ship immediately, we have been ordered to return to Geneva." (Reply: Any) "Lt. Adams send a message to Fleet Command." =^= Ready sir.=^= "This is Captain Saleke of the USS Mystique to Admiral Gr'Iann, orders have been received. Mystique will be enroute to Geneva in 2 hours, estimated time of arrival is eleven point six days. Saleke out." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.05 (USS Mystique- Ready Room - Dr. Michaella Kirien -1005) Michaella stood outside the ready room with a pensive look on her face. She had settled both of her girls in their quarters, before slipping into the official starfleet uniform, something she rarely wore. Over it she wore a blue labcoat, her ankle length dair hair arranged in an elaborate crown of braids twined with ribbons. She pressed the chime, and then walked in, setting her Padd on the desk before her. "Doctor Michaella Kirien reporting for duty, Sir." She did not salute, but stood at polite attention for the vulcan. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stardate: 2407.02.17 (USS Mystique - Bridge - CO, Captain Saleke - 0718) As the ship neared the system where Geneva was set the picket line of defensive ships came into sensor range, it was only a matter of minutes before a phalanx of Sphinx-Void fighters peeled off in their direction along with a larger craft. "Captain, I read six Sphinx-Void fighters and one Defiant Class vessel, shields are activated and weapons on standby." Ketal was watching the panel closely but looked up after speaking to see the dots on the long range sensors displayed on the screen growing quickly. A beeping noise announced the arrival of a communication incoming. (Reply: Any on the bridge) The screen changed to the bridge of the Defiant. =^= This is Captain Fletcher of the USS Undaunted, identify yourself.=^= The mans voice had a hard edge, rife with tension. It appeared events on Geneva of which he had received updates during the trip here were still having an effect on the inhabitants. A Network of disruptive individuals known as Habitat for Humanity had resorted to terrorism and had to be hunted down, the introduction of a mutated virus had threatened to result in the death of thousands there. Habitat for Humanity was a known subversive organization made up of human beings with extreme xenophobia who believed that other species were gaining transendence over humans and that humanity should rise to a position of dominance over them or there should be a disengagement with all other life forms thus isolating humanity from them. It had been becessary to keep abreast on the conflict as the wedding parties of both Dr. Vren and Lt. Keswick were non-human being Bajoran and Klingon and certain to inflame the situation not to mention putting the families in danger had they arrived too soon, keeping in close contact with them insured they would arrive after the Mystique.... and avoid any difficulties. The Captain of the Undaunted himself appeared to be determined to make sure none there was no doubt as to his intentions. "This is the USS Mystique, Captain Saleke in charge returning to Geneva on the orders of Admral Gr'Iann to deliver Captain Winters to the medical division for further treatment." =^= One moment Captain.=^= The screen blanked for a moment as the oncoming ships continued to grow in the viewscreen. The seconds ticked by before contact was renewed. =^= USS Mystique your arrival has been cleared by Admiral Gr'Iann, reduce speed to warp three until you reach the twenty thousand kilometer mark then drop out of warp for final entry, any deviation from this will be be taken as a hostile act...=^= He needen't say what the outcome to that would be. "Understood Captain Fletcher we are expecting the arrival of two other ships, one Bajoran and the other Klingon." There was a moment as the Captain spoke with one of his officers. =^= The Kel'Shak and Pelivar have been cleared but have not yet arrived, orders show they are attached to a wedding party...=^= A small smile touched the mans lips at that bit of news. =^= Congratulations appear to be in order for your crew Captain.=^= The Vulcan nodded. "Thank you for the information Captain, Mystique out." =^= Undaunted out.=^= The screen dissolved to be replaced by space again. "Captain the ships are peeling off to form an escort." "Ensign adjust course and speed to follow instructions exactly." (Reply: Andreas) It was now only a matter of time before docking, Saleke folded his hands across his chest as his orders were carried out. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- end compile
